PWG Uganda 2019

PWG Uganda 2019 was held on 12 December at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala, Uganda. This event was held in collaboration with the Human Rights Centre Uganda and provided a platform for women human rights defenders to network with a purpose and build partnerships with leading women and from different economic, political and social spheres of influence in Uganda and internationally.

The theme was “Step into your purpose and refocus for 2020”, explored various topics however some of the topics touched on the reality of Ugandan women, including a the panel on labor export in Uganda and emerging human rights issues and trafficking women. Financial literacy, legal issues, health & wellness, and beauty were discussed in break out sessions. There were several high level guests including members of Parliament and the judiciary of Uganda. Margaret Sekaggya the Executive Director of the Human Rights Centre Uganda, and the guest of honor was Hon. Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire who is a Justice of the Court of Appeal of Uganda/ Constitutional Court who gave inspirational insights into their professional lives.

The 2018, Phenomenal Women’s Conference  Uganda Conference was also held at the Golf Course Hotel in December 2018, and the main objective was to empower and equip women to rise above challenges faced in their work in the promotion and protection of human rights; and  empower women Human rights defenders by providing a platform for networking with persons from Parliament and the Justice Law and Order Sector; that would enhance their work in the promotion of human rights, rule of Law and Constitutionalism.
